| RMF (Rich Music Format) was developed by Beatnik (formerly known as Headspace), whose founder Thomas Dolby wanted to create a cross-platform audio standard for the Internet. The company createdthe cross-platform Beatnik plug-in to play RMF files (as well as MIDI files). | |

RMF files use a specific variant of MIDI technology to play music, and the Beatnik plug-in contains a high quality set of sounds that are triggered when an RMF file is played. RMF technology also allows composers and sound designers to create their own custom sounds, which can then be included with a specific RMF file. At this point, the only way to play RMF files is with the Beatnik Plug-in. |

| With the latest Beatnik authoring tools, it's now possible to use RMF to play a narration, sound effect or other "audio" data. The audio sample would need to be created using AIF, WAV, uLaw, or--most importantly--MP3 file format, and then embedded in an RMF file. It could then be played back as a single custom note assigned to this audio "sample." |
